CELLO MASTERCLASS

Cellist Levon Mouradian made his concert debut at the age of 10, as the winner of the Interpretation Award for young musicians in the Republic of Armenia. In the following years, he was awarded top prizes in the most prestigious international competitions, such as the Pablo Casals International Cello Competition, the Tchaikovsky International Competition, in Moscow, and the Julio Cardona Strings Competition, in Covilhã. His career led him to perform all over the world in countries such as the USA, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Hungary, Japan, Korea, Russia, Israel, and Brazil. As a soloist, he played with the Armenian Symphony Orchestra at the age of 14 and, since then, has performed under the direction of the most renowned conductors, such as Valery Gergiev, Veronika Dudarova, Gennadi Rozhdestvensky, Djansung Kakhidze, Vag Papian, Georgi Kostin, Omri Hadari, Daniel Nazaré, and Joana Carneiro, among others. He has recorded an extensive repertoire from the Baroque period to the present day, having published CDs for the Melody and Dutch Records Company and Clave Records label. Levon Mouradian is regularly invited to conduct cello and chamber music masterclasses at the Valle De Arlanza Festival (Spain), the Viana do Castelo International Festival (Portugal), and the summer course in Weikersheim (Germany). He was the chair of the cello and chamber music departments at the Arts Department of the University of Évora and is currently on faculty at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa. Levon Mouradian plays on an eighteenth-century Venetian cello.
