RAQUEL CRAVINO

VIOLIN FACULTY

Born in the city of Covilhã, Ms. Cravino began her music studies (piano and ballet) at five years old at Covilhã  Music School. During six years she studied violin with Professor António de Oliveira e Silva at the Professional  School of Arts of Beira Interior.  

In 2002, she obtained a Bachelor degree in Violin under the guidance of the violinist Ágnes Sárosi at the  Orchestra National Academy in Lisbon. She was given two stipends: Covilhã City Hall student's support and  Association Music-Education and Culture.  

Ms. Cravino attended several violin and chamber music masterclasses namely with Manuel Teixeira, Sergey  Kravchencko, Angelique Loyer, Gerardo Ribeiro, Augustin Dumay, Boris Kuniev, Jan Dobrelevsky, Vladimir  Ovcharech, James Dahlgren, Gilles Apap, Alexandre da Costa and pedagogy workshops with Bogumila Burfin,  Gwendolin Masin and Joyce Tan.  

As freelancer, she has performed frequently with relevant Portuguese orchestras such as Cascais and Oeiras  Chamber Orchestra, Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra.  

After 2002, Raquel Cravino as been active in teaching at the Escola Artística de Música do Conservatório  Nacional (EAMCN) and Conservatório Metropolitano de Música de Lisboa and invited to tutor violin workshops  and masterclasses. Many of her students have been awarded in national and international competitions.  To develop knowledge in the teaching filed, Ms. Cravino, gained in 2013 a Master Degree in Pedagogy of Violin  by Lusíada University / Orchestra National Academy under the guidance of Aníbal Lima.  

A founding member of Arabesco’s String Quartet since 2007 has led Ms. Cravino to deepen her knowledge in  ancient music and baroque violin masterclasses with Enrico Onofri, Enrico Gatti, Richard Gwild, Francesca  Viccari , Chiara Banchini and in chamber music with Alfredo Bernardini and Vittorio Guielmi. Ms. Cravino has  performed regularly in diversed ancient music projects such as the Baroque Orchestra of Casa da Música, Músicos  do Tejo, Divino Suspiro, Flores de Música, Melleo Harmonia and Concerto Campestre. Within those projects,  some recordings were released as followed: “Luísa Todi Arias'' – Músicos do Tejo 2008; “Spinalba” – Músicos do  Tejo 2011; “Te Deum” by Francisco António de Almeida – Flores de Música 2012; “Mass in Fá M” by Francisco  António de Almeida – Flores de Música 2014; “L´Angelica” by João Sousa de Carvalho – Concerto Campestre  2016; “O Fado Barroco” – Músicos do Tejo 2017.  

In 2019, Ms. Cravino was selected to participate in the Julliard Piccola Accademia in Italy, under the theme “The  Music of Telemann and the French Style”. In this workshop, she has worked with the violinists Robert Mealy and  Elizabeth Blumenstock as well as chamber music under the guidance of Sandra Miller, Phoebe Carrai, Dominic  Teresi and Béatrice Martin. In 2020, was accepted as soloist (invitation of Giorgio Cini Foundation) for a seminar  on the Venezian composer Antonio Caldara guided by Amandine Beyer. 

In 2022, Ms. Cravino obtained the Diploma of the Master’s degree in Ancient Music - Baroque Violin at the Superior  School of Music of Lisbon under the guidance of Professor Benjamin Chénier.  

On the scope of this Master's degree, under the guidance of Dr. Pedro Couto Soares, Ms. Cravino presented a  Dissertation titled "Interpretive and Historical Aspects of the 'Sonata à violino e Basso Sopra Lo Stile Che Suona  Il Prette Dalla Chitarra Portoghese' b4, by Giuseppe Tartini. A recording will be released in 2024 with this work  and other portuguese composers. 

After her graduation (2022-2023), she was offered a scholarship (Traineeship's Erasmus grant) to work with the  renowed violinist Shunske Sato at the Amsterdam University of the Arts.
